Fuji X-T1

... i am so enjoying my fuji x-t1, it's the first digital camera that overall reminds me of my classic nikon f3 film camera ... and, for not much more than the cost of a single modern "auto everything" lens, i've managed to put together an outfit of classic zuiko and tamron glass that is the finest set of lenses i've ever owned ... (i shot this picture using my "homemade" studio lighting outfit) ...

ONE PICTURE

... me, my fuji x-t1, and our recently-arrived from japan "new" thirty-year old zuiko 28mm f/2.0 lens went for a walk ... together we sought a single image ...

THANKSGIVING DAY

... i went up to bangor to share thanksgiving day with the tracys ... we all agreed we were most thankful that baby grant, who arrived in the world eight weeks ahead of schedule, was home healthy ...

... i like this picture because tom's "serious look" was less a natural expression and more a bit of playful posing  ...

... megan helped her brother figure out the physics of making a bicycle go forward ...

... some time ago they wrapped a dead dragonfly in paper and buried it alongside the garage ... walker asked, "do dragonflies go to heaven" ... i could see megan reach for the woman she is to become in pondering the duality of the delimma that faced her ... "is there a heaven, and, if so, does it have a place for dragonflies" ... i couldn't hear her words, but from the expression on his face i know she answered as a sister who cares deeply for her brother ...

... a world in which frosty the snowman is real ...

... and another in which is to enjoy mastering simple acts ...

... mother and son ...

... brothers, intent ...

... emily, who could illustrate "smile" in the dictionary ...

... on isaac newton's face, this same expression led to "PhilosophiƦ Naturalis Principia Mathematica," and our perspective of the universe was forever changed ...

... a gram granddaughter moment ...

... the first millisecond of an em smile ...

... megan, observing the goings-ons ...

... "pa's not lookin',  i wonder what'll happen if i bag the dog with my batman head scarf" ...

... sister boost ...

... "amazing" ...

... engrossed times two ...

... baby grant, so tiny ...

A mother's [parent's] arms are made of tenderness
and children sleep soundly in them.

... daniel, low rpm mode ...

... an illustration for the "parenting 101" textbook ...

... we shared a tasty traditional thanksgiving supper of japanese take-out [said emmie, "i just brought home a baby brother for my five kids, we're ordering out"] ... after, chad and i took a moment to point our 90mm macro lenses at a common subject ... this was my perspective ...

... thank you, thank you very much ...

AROUND TOWN WANDERABOUT

... i went for a little wanderabout around town ... this little bird was in the window of the jewelry store that's below my apartment ...

... colby college bought the abandoned hains building, and in the beginning of the cleaning process my favorite "main street window ladies" have been removed ... no matter, it seems that over on ticonic street in the window of a used clothing store their kin have taken up the cause ...

... although only the first week of november it appears it's not too early for christmas ...

... next to the library a splash of color ...

... in the window of the pawnshop, playing silently the blues ...

... nothing but geometry ...

... in the south end, even though autumn's ended this little fellow was still holding on to summer ...

... evening light at three o'clock in the afternoon, welcome to the 44th parallel ...

... green and yellow, i stopped to admire ...

... waiting—waiting ...

... from the newly renovated bridge, looking down into the messalonskee stream, my thoughts were of an evening a long time ago when from this very spot a very sad young woman stepped from life ...

“We can make our minds so like still water that beings gather about us that they may see, it may be, their own images, and so live for a moment with a clearer, perhaps even with a fiercer life because of our quiet.”

MEETING BABY GRANT

... i drove up to bangor to visit with the tracys ... this day i was pleased that in front of my lens megan remained relaxed and candid ...

... as is his nature, dan immerses himself in the joy of childhood ...

... taken in an extremely dark room, here megan and dog share a moment ...

... while with the other dog she shared a laugh ...

... i like how dan looks right through the camera into my eye ...

... and i enjoy watching his little moments ...

... tom shows love of a being corralled wiggle-worm brother ...

... chad and i went over to the hospital to spend time with baby grant ... this little guy arrived into the world eight weeks early, but with the help of the science and miracle that is modern medicine he's thriving ...

... dad and child, such memories this stirs ...

... the beginning of a great conversation ...

... it was time to leave, but, both of us being well-seasoned fathers, we knew to take pause and debate whether this was a sneeze or cough ...

... back home chad introduced walker to the joy of corn nuts ...

... and, being walker, he made sure give us all a flash ...

... it seems that whenever i visit one of the five kids always manages to avoid my camera ... this night it was emily ... no matter, i'll make up for it next time ...

... what a wonderful day ...

DOGSITTING IN N.H.

... heading over to new hampshire for a few days of dog-sitting, i made a little detour to north anson to visit with liz while she sold her wonderful creations at a craft show ... every time i see her work i think a photograph of her booth should be inserted in the dictionary next to the word "talented" ...

... her two friends, sara, who from discarded sweaters constructs beautiful mittens, and ahnna, painter of marvelous miniatures ...

... on the ride across the state i stopped to visit maine's "old native american on the side of the road" ... new hampshire's guy fell off the mountain years ago, i'm thinking it's time we put ours on a maine license plate ...

... in the upstairs bedroom the matress of my bed is level with the window sill ... at five-thirty this morning i awoke with a start, "something's going on" ... i rolled over to look out the window, recognized what i was seeing (thank you, john), and ran downstairs to get my camera and tripod ... fifteen minutes later, rather chilled from standing outside in the 25°f air barefooted wearing only my boxers and a t-shirt, i'd managed to snap a picture of the rising moon aligned with venus, mars, and jupiter ...

... adrien came over for supper ... we baked a chicken and a bag of nathan's french fries, then watched an episode of "fargo" ...

... after adrien left i turned off all the house lights and spent some time outside in the hot tub ... i listened to the forest's night music echo along the milky way arcing o'head ...
