TWO WANDERABOUTS

... when we got to the end of his road i asked chad, "left or right turn" ...

... "i don't know, either way" ...

... so began our little friday afternoon wanderabout ... up past skowhegan we came upon these buildings out in the woods ...

... chad is fascinated by solitary trees in fields ... i told him he could make this his, just as john has his own down in liberty ...

... we wandered back roads, snapping pictures and enjoying the day ...

... we found a fabulous stone wall ...

... and what is possibly the most perfect "take a picture of" tractor i've ever chanced across ...

... in the valley below a treacherously steep grade placarded "give way to downhill traffic" we explored this river ...

... chad stayed up on the bridge, "you're crazy" ...

COURTESY CHAD TRACY
... nature's sculpture garden ...

... i crawled beneath an ice floe the size of a small car to get this picture ... it was only after i'd wriggled myself into position that i thought, "hmmmm, what if the flow collapses" ... it didn't ...

... today john picked me up and we headed over to farmington where courtesy of local snowmobilers we hiked a nicely packed trail to the cascade brook falls ...

... i call these "ice dollops" ...

... when i hung over the edge the ice made some very interesting noises ...

... the main cataract cascades from beneath the ice dam it has created ...

... i like the patterns formed by the ice ...

... while he was trying out this spot john slipped down and his boot made it all the way to the stream's extremely frigid water ... good thing l.l.bean footwear is waterproof ...

... i'm going down to the west indies tomorrow to visit my family, so i guess it's time for me to start packing ...
