POOL TIME!

... last time i visited i left without my bathing suit, so while i was out doing errands i stopped to recover it—which i did, after a nice long swim and a wonderful supper ...

... when i first met danny he was a tiny boy who would relax in my arms like a little cuddle ball ... now, quite obviously, he's growing up ...

... em posed for me ... in most of the images she looked seriously—well, "goofy" would put it mildly, so i decided to spare her the embarrassment and post this most charming expression (right, i'm filing the outtakes for some fun on another day) ...

... megan couldn't quite get the hang of jumping and spinning at the same time, but i still managed a cool snap ...

... last i saw grant he was hanging on to the edge of the shallow end, now he's practicing for the olympic 3-meter gold  ...

... "live long and prosper" ... ??? ...

... walker's working on his cannonball ...

... this brought back wonderful memories of spending afternoons hanging out at the pool doing nothing but, well, hanging out at the pool ...

... megan has her first job interview this week ... too soon, too soon ...

... emily tries to run across the pool ...

... young tom brings great energy to the classic cannonball dive, so much that after he splashed down i had to clean the lens on my camera ...

... such a little boy ...

... i remember telling little megan that someday all the smiles she tried to hide she would end up beaming to the world, and that doing so would make it a tiny bit better place for all of us ...

... "sister act" ...

... forever connected, this is how i think of the sisters i helped raise ...

... joy, sheer joy ...

... play is the highest form of research ...

A NICE WATERABOUTING

... john rang me up, "put your camera in a waterproof bag, i've a neat place i want to take you" ... riding in the car was enough to make me happy, so it wasn't until we got down to cobbosseecontee lake that i even thought about where we were going ...

... we (meaning, of course, john) put the canoe in the water and headed out across the huge lake ... we soon arrived at the "ladies delight light" ...

... marking the rocky shoals in the center of the lake, the light has been flashing its warning beacon for over one-hundred years ... it is immaculately maintained by a trust dedicated to its preservation and operation ...

... knowing how incredibly difficult it is to earn status as a maine guide, i felt rather cool wearing john's life jacket ...

... and, of course, it is always a thrill to have my very own maine guide providing navigation, information, and propulsive services ...

... you can't spend time on the surface of a pond or lake in maine without enjoy the antics of Gavia immer, the Common Loon ...

... paddling back to the put in we saw a kayak coming towards us ... we pulled alongside for a chat ...

... marjorie was a most pleasant encounter ... from the tidewater of maryland, her family has summered on the lake for over one-hundred years ... !!! ...

When winds and waves a mutual contest wage,
These foaming anger, those impelling rage;
Thy blissful light can cheer the dismal gloom,
And foster hopes beyond a wat’ry doom.

LIZ AND DAN PUT TOGETHER THE NEW TOY

... a few weeks ago, liz, "dad, i hate mowing the yard so i bought an electric riding lawn mower ... !!!" ... hmmmmm, we're in the midst of a world-wide pandemic, the economy is in shambles, the national debt is out of control, once again our nation is painfully assessing its history and cultural values, and our non-leader is a whack-job who redefines himself each and every day*, yet my sweet little girl decides to step up from her bench press and heavy-duty weed-whacker—so optimistic, so brass, so absolutely cool ...

... "dad, can you come over when it's delivered and help me put it together" ...

... "is that a woman or liz request" ...

... "liz, dad" ...

... yea, she , adrien, too, so cool ...

... she told me that i could ask if danny could be freed from quarantine to assist, so, with em's approval, he and i headed out into the martin stream bog whicky-whacks ...

... they worked, i watched, my involvement being only some simple "tool use" advice ...

... little danny, all of a sudden so grown up ...

... the two of them are a natural team ...

... i was impressed at how well they read, interpreted, and implemented the assembly instructions ...

... danny's three-dimensional conceptual awareness is seriously impressive  ...

... it turned out that the final step was to "drive it backwards off the shipping frame"  ... first problem was that the deliverers had placed it in the wrong direction ... second, to make things worse, the instructions didn't take into account the height of the wooden shipping pallet ... "what we do, dad" ... i looked, then created a ramp using a piece of plywood and some metal garden stakes ...

... danny analyzed the structure, "it's going to bend" ...

... "right ... liz, just gun it hard and by the time the ramp breaks you'll be off the shipping container" ...

... big toys for big girls, fabulous ... i doubt if liz'll change her mind about lawn mowing, but i think she's going to love completing the chore with a machine that has a cup holder. usb port, headlamps, and is most pleasantly quiet ...

... like a duck to a pond ...

... hmmm, m'be some green dickies coveralls and a business'll be born ...

... downtown waterville, these workers currently my morning alarm clock ...

... just a snap ... i like it, i don't know why ...

... more playin' around ...

If you have one, take off! But if you don’t have one, realize it is your responsibility to grab a shovel and build one for yourself and for those who will follow after you.
