... 6:00 am, right on schedule, we were off ... on this cold and snowy eve of spring, how odd the memory of this same time last year when in shirtsleeves i rode all over the countryside on my motorcycle ... this morning we actually got stuck for a few minutes when i drove into a snowbank so the plow could get by ...

... sunrise from route 16, just as we left ossippee ... by the time we got to eastern massachusetts the roads were clear enough for me to remark, "glad that's behind us" ... a couple of hours later, of course, the syracuse city limits saw the beginning of lake effect snow squalls ... several hours on, as we headed south into ohio, i once again remarked, "knock wood, we're done with all that" ... will i ever learn ... from the ohio border almost all the way to columbus was a constant back-and-forth from a dry roadway and clear air to absolute no visibility ice-coated tarmac white-out blizzard conditions ... all along the way were numerous cars and trucks off the road ... "d**m the weather, full speed ahead," 1,000+ miles in 18 hours, the "welcome to grovesport" sign appeared none to soon, and it was, indeed, a greatly welcomed sight ... tomorrow, a day of rest before we head west ...
