SIMON AT THE STEAKHOUSE

... simon kiser played joseph's steakhouse this evening ... okay, so "played" might not be the right word ... he sang, accompanying himself with keyboard and guitar, but for the first half of the evening i'm not sure the non-relative/non-friend members of the crowd were paying much attention ... i guess being wedged up against the fireplace twenty feet from a noisy bar is part of the "dues" which must be paid by up-and-coming musicians ... when he's famous, and everyone in the room has bought a ticket specifically to enjoy his music, then, i'm sure, it'll all have been worth it ... in the meantime, as his grammy says, "he just ignores it all and plays" ...

... simon plays, writes, and performs, but i most like it when he's beyond all that, and, with memories from a long, long time ago, for brief moments i'm suddenly reminded of a young bobby zimmerman ...
