FIRST X-T1 OUTING

... having left for new hampshire after tearfully parting with one of my nikon d7000 outfits, i arrived home to find in my mail pile a bunch of boxes from amazon.com ... today was my first outing with a fuji x-t1 "mirrorless" digital camera ...

... not only is there a remarkable (and, of course, planned) physical similarity of the modern digital x-t1 to the classic olympus om-2 film camera, but i can now clearly report that the fuji handles just as wonderfully as the olympus ... even more important, the state-of-the-art fuji can use virtually any lens from any camera ever made, including the great zuiko glass ...

... john had asked that i help him with his show at the famous "stewart free library" in corinna ... mostly, because of his bum shoulder, he needed help hauling all his equipment up the very steep stairs to the second floor auditorium ...

... i noticed these "ufo" lights ... over one hundred years old, i can only image what it would cost to install something like these today ...

... always a fascinating process, john fired up his double-fan and the giant planetarium dome mushroomed into shape ...

... as the little kids filed in for the show i headed out to take pictures ... still in a flower mood, i found these outside the back door ... this shot was taken with my 12mm wide-angle (manual focus, manual exposure) ...

... the wording bothers me ...

... i couldn't understand this 911 memorial, perhaps one of you can enlighten me ...

... still, after all these years, a mystery ...

... near the center of town i came across what was obviously a non-violent civic protest ... as i read the chronology i noticed a man sitting in the shade under the trees ...

... i walked over, sat down on the lawn, and introduced myself to ron nelson ... i asked about his truck and he proceed to explain to me the full history of his "disagreements" with town and state government officials ... it was his side of the story i heard, for sure, but it all made sense to me ... same people, i suppose, who seem to ticket or tow my car according to whim ... ron's a veteran, a former warrant officer who worked at nike hercules missile batteries ...

... a said, "you must be really mad, let me get a picture of it" ... he managed, but only for a second or so, then he burst into laughter ... i liked him, not just for that, but also because i know it was his like who built this country, a nation in which political protest should not simply be condoned, but also celebrated ...

... on the ride home we stopped, i wasn't paying attention as to where we were ... i saw these two in conference and i walked over to find out what it was that interested them in the little pamphlet they were so intently studying ... "we're trying to find out for this lake what the minimum size is for a bass that's a legal keeper" ...

... connor displayed his catch, one they soon agreed must be returned to the lake to grow a bit before it could be considered meal-sized ...

... man and child, fishing gear, some worms, a warm breeze and open water ...

... timeless ...
