A LITTLE FRYBURG FAIR WANDERABOUT

P.S. DON'T FORGET YOU CAN CLICK ON IMAGES TO ENLARGE THEM

... john and i made a little wander over to the fryburg fair ... before that, however, i took my tamron sp 90mm macro out to double-check that it had, indeed, survived perfectly its brief immersion in the glacially silted water at the confluence of alaska's icy cold susitna, chulitna and telkeetna rivers ...

... at the fair we enjoyed the lumberjack competition ...

... before he attacked this log the young man had a serious conference with the judges concerning what near as i could determine was a knot in the wood he considered some sort of "unfair playing field" ... they disagreed, he proceeded to cut through it by hand faster than i could do so using a chain saw ...

... com'on, what's our society coming to ... i mean, a "where's my fresh nappy" app ... ??? ...

... this is the new breed of "t.s.a. compliant cow" ... oops, sorry john, i really meant to say, "bovine" ...  [sigh] ... some days i learn the oddest things ...

... critter friendly, it seemed, but then i wondered, "is he really thinking new sweater, or—ohmygosh—supper" ...

... after a few years of professional competition these lumberjacks probably don't get much propulsion when they're in the swimming pool doing the flutter kick ... i'm betting this is why steel-toed boots were invented ...

... "i'm next for a trim" ...

... such tenderness, but, truthfully, not when i'd least expect it ...

... the highpoint of our visit to the fair, the pan tossing contest ... sara went first ...

... then it was adrien's turn ...

... both of them, such form, such grace, but, alas, a woman's 70 foot monster toss knocked them off the podium ... no matter, they both seemed to have great fun competing, and, i'm sure, soon they'll begin training for next year's event ...

... even as i began this journal entry i took a break to go sit on my "porch" ...

... what a wonderful day ...
