ALMOST TWO FEET

... adrien and i are quite cozily sitting out the storm in my apartment ... earlier this morning it was still possible to drive through the concourse parking lot, but by late-afternoon it became completely impassable ...

... at times the other side of the concourse was barely visible ...

... my personal snow gauge ... each dark/light section is about one and one-half inches ...

... not a creature was stirrin' ...

... so i decided to take a little stroll ...

... my somewhat aloof next door neighbors appeared unimpressed by the storm ...

... a path had been shoveled to the mailbox, i guess the u.s.p.s. still takes that ol' "neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night" thing serious ...

... hopefully winslow won't try to invade waterville during the storm, since it seems our defenses are a bit frozen in ...

... there was no place to walk but in the road, somewhat nerve racking whenever one of these things zipped by me ...

... about the only road that's clear enough to drive in the downtown is main street, the concourse is an arctic landscape, but the "beverage barn's" parking lot is being kept completely clear even though the place isn't open for business ... could it be they're just preparing for the post-storm rush ... ??? ...

... i had to slog through chest-deep drifts to get to the two-cent bridge ...

... at about four o'clock the upper atmosphere must've started clearing, but semi-blizzard conditions continued along the ground ...

... the dark patch of trees along the water, just along the left-third line of the picture, is where some of waterville's homeless are spending the storm in their little cardboard and plastic tarp shelters ...

... main street, on what would normally be a busy business afternoon ...

... me, plowing my way from the road to my front door ...

... i think to complain or whine a bit about this weather, but then i remember ancient times when in far worse conditions i worked 12/12s on the flightline at loring, and, if that's not enough to give me pause, i think of those living down by the river ... adrien and i will make supper, then enjoy a movie ... what a wonderful day this is, what a truly wonderful day ...
