VARIOUS WANDERS

... john, chad, wayne and i went down to pemaquid point to take pictures of the perseid meteors streaking across the milky way ... it turned out that timing pictures of these burning remnants of the comet swift-tuttle was a bit more difficult than we imagined, and it was mostly the case that a loud "wow, look at that one" found us all with cameras facing in the wrong direction ... no matter, one can hardly be disappointed in the presence of an entire galaxy ...

... the heavy humidity, a developing sea fog, and portland's light pollution made the technical aspects of what we were doing a bit more difficult ... still, with frequent wiping of our lenses and a developing sense of the timing of the lighthouse's brilliant beam, we pictured on ...

... i eventually abandoned the "sharpness" side of the equation and focussed my efforts towards pure pictorialism ...

... in a little outing we took a week ago i found this image ...

... robert concentrates as i play around with my "new" tamron 90mm sp macro lens ... for a very small amount of money, about 1/10th the cost of a modern auto-focus offering, i picked up the super-close focusing lens, a 2x convertor, a set of very nice filters, a decent flash unit, a nice case, and, useless as it may be in this digital age, a nikon n2000 camera in excellent condition ... who knows, maybe the world's batteries'll all run out and we'll go back to film ...

... i took a stroll around town, just to get more acquainted with the glass ...

... john and i took a drive up into the mountains to investigate a potential milky way photography vista ... on the ride home we did a loop through rangely, after which we crossed over the height-of-the-land on our way home ...

... the abnaki's "moose feeding place," mooselookmeguntic lake ...
