HOUSESITTING IN FREEDOM - DAY 5

... i awoke to the dog barking, the cat complaining, the carpenters cutting and hammering, and, of course, the birds chirping ... i'll consider the whole orchestration my "freedom alarm clock" ... adrien came by early to drop off her car ... she took a short break during which she continued giving rufus, the dog, "no" lessons ...

... my task for the day was to repair the doors on adrien's car ... i needed to wash it before i began, so rufus and i went for a drive up to the carwash in north conway ...

... rufus seemed to like the ride, constantly changing sides of the car as if making sure not to miss a single smell ... i staked him out in a little patch of woods while i vacuumed the inside of the car ... he managed to get so tangled up in his leash that it took me five minutes to free him ... i don't think he likes car washes ...

... all finished, drying ... i wire brushed the lower inside door seams, then treated any corrosion i found with a layer of "rust reformer," a compound that binds with and chemically neutralized oxidation ... after that was six coats of red paint ... i finished by filling the seams with heavy-duty silicone sealant ... while waiting for each coating of paint to dry i cleaned and detailed the inside of the car ...

... after i was done i went for a short ride on my motorcycle ... picked up a tin of tuna fish and a can of chunky tomato soup ... toasted portuguese rolls with a tiny bit of butter for the sandwich, a huge bowl for the hot soup ... what a yummy supper ...
